While the original Library of Alexandria lies in the realms of history, the modern Bibliotheca Alexandrina stands on its historic grounds. Visitors to the Bibliotheca Alexandrina can explore its halls, exhibits, and collections, which pay homage to the spirit of the ancient library.

-Citadel of Qaitbay
Continue to the Citadel of Qaitbay, a 15th-century fortress built by Sultan Qaitbay to defend Alexandria from potential invaders.
The citadel stands on the site of the famous Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, which was destroyed by earthquakes.
Learn about the history of the lighthouse, built during the reign of Ptolemy II in 300 BC, and the importance of the citadel in protecting Egypt’s Mediterranean coast. The Citadel is the best place to take in the breathtaking view of the Mediterranean.
